Purple, Green, and Black Ice Dye Shirt
This purple, green, and black ice dye shirt was made using a custom mixture of Procion fiber reactive dye, soda ash, and Glauber's salt. The powdered mixture was sprinkled over ice on a wet cotton shirt, then placed on an incline to create flowing color patterns as the ice melted.

Mixing Procion Dye With Soda Ash
Three colors of Procion fiber reactive dye were combined in a small plastic shaker bottle with a sprinkle top. Soda ash and Glauber's salt were added to the same container, and the powders were shaken together.
A cotton T-shirt was wet and scrunched into a plastic bin. The shirt was not presoaked in soda ash because the soda ash was included in the powdered dye mixture.
Applying Dye Over Ice on an Incline
The shirt was covered with ice, and the dye mixture was sprinkled over the top. The dye was applied heavily at one end and gradually tapered off toward the opposite end.
The plastic bin was placed on an incline using a small Mega Blok underneath one end. This allows the dye to flow from the area with the highest concentration toward the area with less dye as the ice melts.
Photos will be added to this page when the shirt is finished batching and rinsed. Should be up by October 16th, 2026.
