When I started sewing cloth pads, I saw some stunning fabric by an artist who went by the name Little Peaces. She called her fabric dyeing style geode tie dye, and I was enamored from first sight. That eventually led me to try it myself and become fixated on the technique for getting crisp lines and even color saturation. This is a compilation of my process notes for doing geode tie dye with ice dye and the cold mist method.

What is geode tie dye?

It’s a style of tie dye that ends up resembling a sliced agate or geode. Artificial sinew is wrapped around fabric and pulled tight to resist dye and create lines.
