The process of dyeing a vibrant orange sweatshirt with subtle variation. Tools and supplies suggested. Orange tie dye sweatshirt Dyeing a crewneck sweatshirt in a bin with 3 fiber reactive dye colors. Process Presoaked in soda ash water, and then hand wrung before placing in the dye bin. Colors Peach: 3 tablespoons Golden Yellow: 1 tablespoon Soft orange: 1 tablespoon Dye from Dharma Trading Co. Batched on a heating mat for about 4 hours to speed up the colors setting. Pink and brown tie dye recipe This shirt was dyed with baby pink and chocolate brown from Dharma Trading Co. This page contains the process notes to make this shirt. Shirt and prep This is a cotton crop top shirt, presoaked in soda ash solution. The ratio of the soda ash is mixed at 1 cup of soda ash per 1 gallon of water. The shirt was soaked and hand wrung before dyeing. Dye colors 1 tablespoon Baby Pink + 3 cups of water 1 teaspoon chocolate brown + 1 cup of water Process 3 cups of water is used to dissolve the tablespoon of baby pink dye, and poured into a plastic bin. The shirt is then placed into the dye and swished around until it is well mixed and saturated. It's scrunched evenly and left to sit while the next color is mixed. 1 cup of water is used to dissolve 1 teaspoon of chocolate brown dye. This is poured at one end of the bin, near the neck of the shirt. It's lightly swished with one hand to blend it near the neck, but it's mostly poured in and left to sit. There's much more aggitation with the first color than the second color. This helps to get good color saturation, avoiding white spots, but you also get defined details with the second darker color. Attach the outlet air duct to the bottom of the RV air conditioner from inside the vehicle. Align the duct with the marked sides and secure it with four truss head screws for a proper fit. How do you attach an outlet air duct on an RV air conditioner? Attach the outlet air duct to the base of the outdoor RV air conditioner from inside the vehicle using four truss head screws. Make sure the duct is positioned with the correct side facing down and that the markings for direction are aligned before tightening the screws. Installing the Outlet Air Duct Cut the four cable ties and position the outlet air duct at the base of the outdoor unit. The duct must be installed from inside the RV using four truss head screws (#10). Align the duct so the up, down, left, and right markings face the correct directions. The side labeled “this face down” should rest against the bottom of the air conditioner. Do not force or twist the duct once aligned. There is only one correct orientation that allows the mounting holes to line up evenly. Tighten the screws until snug to create a secure connection between the duct and the air conditioner base. Explore the Sims Education Center at Fernwood Botanical Gardens, where kids can rest, read, stack rocks, and use binoculars to watch birds through the large viewing windows. Bird watching at Fernwood Botanical Gardens Follow the trail to the Sims Education Center. It's the grey building with plants on some parts of the roof. Inside, you'll find bird watching stations. When we first started walking through the trails at Fernwood, we weren’t really sure where we were going or what we would see. One of the first things we came across was the Sims Education Center. We wandered inside and were delighted to meet someone at the front entrance who welcomed us and was very friendly. She let us know that we could explore the education center and take a look at the bird viewing area or the library. There was also an area for rock stacking, which looked like a lot of fun for kids. What was really neat to see was how many stations they had set up for bird watching. There were large windows with binoculars and chairs so you could sit and wait for birds to come to the feeders outside. I imagine this is a great space for field trips or if you’re visiting with your own kids and want to keep everyone in one place. Guests can look at books, bird watch or stack the rocks, or the rock pillows. It’s a nice little rest spot where everyone can take a break during a walk on the trails. Geode tie dye is made by wrapping sinew tightly around fabric to form rings and lines that look like a sliced geode. Works well with ice-dye or the cold mist method. What is geode tie dye? It’s a style of tie dye that ends up resembling a sliced agate or geode. Artificial sinew is wrapped around fabric and pulled tight to resist dye and create lines. I first saw this style of tie dye from a creator who was dyeing fabric to sew reusable pads and cloth diapers. She was tying multiple concentric lines with sinew on bamboo sherpa fabric, and I thought it was really beautiful and wanted to try it myself. At first, it’s difficult to get a feel for how tight the ties need to be if you want the lines to stay crisp without blotchiness between them. The tied item ends up looking like an octopus with a bunch of tentacles poking out everywhere. It’s a time consuming method, but a lot of people enjoy the results and the ways the colors will split when it’s ice dyed or when someone uses the cold mist method. I usually ice dye geodes, and I get the best results when I apply ice and dye to one side, let it melt, then flip it over and apply more ice and dye to the other side. The results end up being more even across the whole item, especially if it’s a shirt. The parts of the shirt that face up and get the most contact with the ice and dye usually look the best, so doing two applications helps even that out. There’s also a lot of benefit to the cold mist method in how fast you can flip the item and apply dye from different directions. This page was last updated on Feb 5, 2026
